Travel Itinerary for the Week of November 28th!

We start this week in South Korea with new writer Ms. V. Remember when you were able to get a full night’s sleep? Nope, neither can Ms. V! She takes us on her journey from sleep champion to sleep deprived.

On Tuesday, we travel back to the United States. We will be in Minnesota with Nicole at Third Eye Mom, who is doing a human rights post on censorship in China.

On Wednesday, we are off globe-trotting again. We will go to Japan, where Melanie Oda reflects on the upcoming New Year and what 2011 has held for her and her family. It has been an eventful year for sure.

On Thursday, we will be back in the United States, this time in Texas. Diana at Hormonal Imbalances talks about how she is introducing her young daughter to an activity that she herself loves – and how her daughter seems to be interested!

And on Friday, we will be in Washington with Tara B. You know how, as kids, our parents said things to us that we vowed we would never say to our kids? In this post, Tara tells us how that has worked out for her!

We have another new writer, from a new corner of the world! Come read about Deborah from United Arab Emirates in Tuesday’s writer interview!

On Saturday, check out the Saturday Sidebar with Eva Fannon, where the World Moms give their thoughts on an important topic, and chime in with your answers to the week’s question!

Saturday Sidebar: Difference in cultures about raising boys vs. girls?

This week’s Saturday Sidebar Question comes from World Moms Blog writer, Diana @Hormonal Imbalances.  She asked our writers,

“Are there any differences in your culture on how boys and girls are raised?  For example, is there a change in discipline when dealing with one gender versus the other?  Education? Expectations in behavior?  Changes in rules as they grow up? Do you agree or disagree with your culture’s parenting methods?”

Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…

Mama B. of Saudi Arabia writes:
“Where to start?  I am going to generalize now so… in general, in our culture there is a big difference between what is expected of boys and what is expected of girls.  As far as discipline goes, girls get the iron fist, while boys get a slap on the hand. (more…)

MINNESOTA, USA: Leaving is the Hardest Part

MINNESOTA, USA: Leaving is the Hardest Part

As I pack up my belongings and go over for the hundredth time the list that I have prepared for my caregivers in my absence, a sharp panic rises in my blood.  I flush and realize I am sweating profusely and almost in tears.

For what I’m about to do feels about the most unnatural thing a mother could ever do:  Freely leave her children.

In only forty-eight hours, I will be boarding a fifteen hour flight to China leaving my two young children at home with my husband and mother who will watch them while I’m away.   It is my choice.  (more…)

Third Eye Mom is a stay-at-home mom living in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her two children Max (6) and Sophia (4). Her children keep her continually busy and she is constantly amazed by the imagination, energy and joy of life that they possess! A world wanderer at heart, she has also been fortunate to have visited over 30 countries by either traveling, working, studying or volunteering and she continues to keep on the traveling path. A graduate of French and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin Madison, where she met her husband Paul, she has always been a Midwest gal living in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Chicago. This adventurous mom loves to be outside doing anything athletic (hiking, running, biking, skiing, snowshoeing or simply enjoying nature), to travel and volunteer abroad, to write, and to spend time with her beloved family and friends. Her latest venture involves her dream to raise enough money on her own to build and open a brand-new school in rural Nepal, and to teach her children to live compassionately, open-minded lives that understand different cultures and the importance of giving back to those in need. Third Eye Mom believes strongly in the value of making a difference in the world, no matter how small it may be. If there is a will, there is a way, and that anything is possible (as long as you set your heart and mind to it!). Saturday Sidebar: What cause would you support?

Welcome to the Saturday Sidebar (formerly known as the Friday Question)!  This weekend our discussion question comes from World Moms Blog founder Jennifer Burden.  She asked our writers,

“If you had to pick one cause or charity for social good, which would you choose?  What is closest to your heart?”

Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…

Salma of Ontario, Canada writes:
“Great question.  I have supported many organizations over the years, but the one that is closest to my heart is The White Ribbon Campaign.  Men working to end violence against women (VAW) is a huge deal to me.  VAW is often considered a woman’s issue, BUT it is society’s problem, so I am all for supporting it.”  (more…)

Friday Question: Which trait would you like your child(ren) to learn?

This week’s Friday Question comes from World Moms Blog writer The Alchemist ofIndia.  She asked our writers,

“Which trait would you like your child(ren) to learn from you and/or your husband or partner?”

Check out what some of our World Moms had to say…

Jenna Farelyn of North Carolina, USA writes:
“I actually pray every night for my children to learn to be compassionate and non judgmental.  I am very accepting and open-minded, while their father is not so much.  Rigid, conservative, “tolerant”.

I hope they learn his skills with budgeting both money and time, because they don’t get that from me.” (more…)
